Second-placed Arsenal lost ground as they were beaten 1-0 at Stoke through Jon Walters' penalty. Liverpool were hoping to go second, above Arsenal and third-placed Manchester City, by winning at Southampton in the day's late match. Everton moved above Manchester United into sixth place with a 1-0 win over West Ham, Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal as a substitute.
