Mexico released contract specifications on Friday for a high-speed rail line planned for a 60-kilometre stretch between Mexico City and Toluca, according to dpa. Gerardo Ruiz-Esparza, Mexico's transportation minister, signed the tender containing the contract specifications. Mexico plans to spen 2.6 billion dollars on the project. Additional lines are to be built between the Mexican capital and Queretaro about 200 kilometres to the north-west and to the south-east toward the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexico's rail infrastructure consists of commuter rail lines in the interior near Mexico City, freight rail lines and historical rail lines used as tourist attractions.
