Leftist technocrat tipped as economy man in Renzi government

Italy's prime ministerial designate, Matteo Renzi, was
due to present his government team on Friday, with leftist technocrat
Pier Carlo Padoan widely tipped to take over the key economy
portfolio, dpa reported.
Padoan, the deputy head and chief economist of the Paris-based
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), has
left an ongoing G20 meeting in Sidney, Australia, to prepare for his
ministerial appointment, officials confirmed.
As economy minister, he will be expected to help Renzi convince
European Union partners to relax austerity targets for Italy, in
return for delivering comprehensive tax, labour and political
reforms.
