Swiss voters went to the polls Sunday to decide on a far-right initiative on curbing the inflow of foreign job seekers, dpa reported. The referendum was initiated by the Swiss People's Party (SVP). The SVP said the small country's job and housing markets as well as its public infrastructure cannot cope with the inflow, noting that up to 80,000 immigrants have been entering Switzerland annually in recent years. Business groups argued that Switzerland, a country of 8 million people, needs highly qualified foreign workers so its companies can keep growing. The most recent opinion poll on the referendum showed opponents maintained a narrow lead over its supporters.
