The late Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1428 H. paid the full expenses of the annual competition to memorize the Holy Quran and the Sunnah which began at the local level in Indonesia in 1422 H. By doing so, he contributed in promoting this competition from local to global levels through the participation of 18 countries of ASEAN and the Pacific in the event. The move underlines the attention The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gives to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The competition bears the name of "Prince Sultan Annual Contest for Memorizing the Holy Quran and the Sunnah" and is continuing due to the generous support provided by the late Prince Sultan to it.
