At least 14 Afghans died in one province after heavy snowfall in northern parts of the country, dpa quoted a local official as saying Wednesday. The snow started to fall on Friday night and continued until Tuesday in the north-western province of Jowzjan, provincial deputy governor Abdul Rahman Mahmoudi told dpa. "Two women and five children were among the 10 who died in Darzab district, while four others died in Qush Tepa district," he said. One group died after they lost their way home during a blizzard, he said. "Around 550 villages in the province are now inaccessible due to the snowfall," he said, adding that efforts to provide emergency aid were being hampered by militant activity in those areas.
