Ruling-party candidate Salvador Sanchez Ceren won the first round of voting in El Salvador's presidential election Sunday, but he appeared likely to miss a first-round win by a small margin, dpa reported. With around two thirds of the ballots counted, current vice president Sanchez Ceren, of the social-democratic FMLN, got 49.1 per cent, according to Salvadoran electoral authorities. If definitive results confirm this, he would fail to get half the votes in the first round and would therefore be held to a run-off with the second-placed finisher. Norman Quijano, of the right-wing party ARENA, got 38.9 per cent of the votes, while ARENA dissident Antonio Saca, of the coalition Unidad, got 11.4 per cent.
