Bahraini Minister of Labour Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan said that most of the labour market indicators of the fourth quarter of 2013 (Q4 2013) were approved during the cabinet meeting. He said the report, indicating that 4,888 citizens were employed in the fourth quarter of the year 2013 and showing that the unemployment rate went down, reflected Bahrain's capacity to continuously create and provide job opportunities for its citizens and to maintain normal unemployment rate. The fourth periodic statistics report for the year 2013 included data for October, November and December 2013, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported. The minister said that the report indicates that one of the most important labour market indicators, the rate of unemployment, has shrunk from 4.6 per cent to 4.3 per cent in September. The unemployment rate remained stable at the same level in December 2013 reflecting the capacity of the Bahraini economy to generate suitable job opportunities to citizens. This is in addition to doubling the efforts in training and qualification aimed to boost the skills and expertise of national manpower and enable them to obtain jobs commensurate with their qualifications and experiences. The report reflected that ongoing successful recruitment efforts which culminated in bringing unemployment rate from 4.7 per cent in the second quarter down to 4.5 per cent in the third quarter and 4.4 per cent in the third quarter of last year.
