New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio reached a deal with civil rights lawyers Thursday giving a green light to reforms that could end the discriminatory police practice of searching people based on racial profiling, The New York Times reported, according to dpa. In an effort to reform the so-called "stop-and-frisk" police tactic, de Blasio agreed to drop an appeal that was lodged under former mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2013 after a judge had found the police practice unconstitutional. The tactic, which allows police officers in New York City to stop and conduct random searches on people, has been widely criticized for being disproportionately used against minorities, mainly blacks and Hispanics. -- SPA 23:30 LOCAL TIME 20:30 GMT تغريد
