President Xi Jinping visited a steamed bun eatery Saturday without apparent prior notification or heavy security in a rare gesture for a top Chinese leader, according to dpa. Xi was photographed and filmed by his fellow diners at the Qingfeng Steamed Bun store as he queued up, ordered and paid for lunch at the popular chain restaurant where a typical meal costs about 16 yuan (2.60 dollars). A series of photos were immediately circulated and forwarded on the country's Twitter-like Weibo microblogging service. Xi, who has been in office for a year, has implemented a high-profile campaign to eradicate "formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance" among Communist Party members. State media have been running daily editorials and articles against corruption, a common source of public outrage, for more than a year.
