The United Nations confirmed Thursday that one of its peacekeeping mission base was attacked by armed forces in South Sudan's Jonglei state, according to dpa. Fighting erupted at the UN peacekeeping mission's temporary base in Akabo early Thursday morning when a group of ethnic Lou Nuer youths tried to force their way inside the base, where several civilians had taken refuge, UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters. "We fear that there may have been some fatalities, but can't confirm who and how many at this stage," Haq said. "The UN mission in South Sudan will try to extract unarmed UN personnel from Akabo, while reinforcing the base in Akabo with an additional 60 troops." Haq also said that there were unconfirmed reports of several students killed by security forces at a university in capital Juba on Wednesday. -- SPA 21:55 LOCAL TIME 18:55 GMT تغريد
