Rescuers were searching Thursday for a sailor who fell off a cargo ship during stormy weather in northern England, as severe weather warnings continued to be in place across Britain and Ireland, dpa reported. The two islands were battered by high winds on Wednesday, leaving thousands without power in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales. A 23-year-old woman was killed in County Westmeath, Ireland when a tree fell on her car. Most power lines had been restored by Thursday, but the bad weather was expected to continue. Flood warnings were in place across parts of southern England and Wales and gusts were expected to reach 129 kilometres per hour in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Kent Railway Station in the southern Irish city of Cork was also able to reopen, after strong winds blew the roof off two platforms on Wednesday, injuring three people.
