Germany's grand coalition deal to form a new government was signed by party leaders in Berlin on Monday. According to dpa, the new coalition will include Chancellor Angela Merkel's centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), its Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD). The 185-page coalition agreement was officially approved by CDU leader Merkel; CSU leader Horst Seehofer; and SPD chief Sigmar Gabriel. The new government is set to be sworn in on Tuesday. The event concludes nearly three months of coalitions talks, after Merkel's conservatives took a narrow majority at the September 22 election, with the centre-left SPD coming in second.
