Former Argentina international Diego Placente has been released from custody in Germany after four weeks in connection with a tax case, prosecutors said Saturday, according to dpa. A spokesman for the Cologne prosecution office confirmed an according report by the Bild paper, which said Placente was released Friday after paying all but the full sum he owed the authorities from his term between 2001 and 2005 at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. "Of course I suffered, especially at the start (of the detention). And I didn't know how long I would be in custody," the 22-times capped Placente told Bild. Placente was arrested in mid-November after coming to germany to participate in a match of former football stars.
