French President Francois Hollande said Thursday he had decided to intervene "immediately" in the Central African Republic, after the United Nations authorized a Franco-African intervention to end months of sectarian violence, dpa reported. Announcing the intervention in an address from the Elysee Palace, Hollande said France would double its current troop deployment of 600"within a few days, if not a few hours. ""This intervention will be quick. It has no vocation to last and I'm sure it will be a success,' he said, pledging to regularly brief the nation on its progress and keep parliament informed. His announcement came just three hours after the UN Security Council approved a resolution giving African Union and French forces the power to use force to restore peace to CAR, where dozens more people were killed in renewed fighting.
