Gunmen in the southern Philippines have shot dead a journalist working with a local radio station, police said Saturday, according to dpa. Joas Dignos, 48, was killed Friday by gunmen on a motorcycle in Valencia town in the Bukidnon province, about 869 kilometres south of Manila. Dignos had received death threats related to his reporting on corruption in the province, a colleague said. The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said that if police proved that Dignos's murder was related to his work, it would be the 19th killing of a journalist under the government of President Benigno Aquino III, who took office in June 2010.
