Daniel Sturridge scored a late equalizer for Liverpool as they clinched a 3-3 draw with Everton in a thrilling Merseyside derby to close to within a point of top spot in the Premier League, dpa reported. Sturridge headed Liverpool level with two minutes of normal time to go after two goals from Romelu Lukaku had threatened to win it for Everton. The result put Liverpool one point of leaders Arsenal while Everton are fifth, three points further back. Arsenal can extend their lead if they beat Southampton later on Saturday. Philippe Coutinho put Liverpool ahead inside five minutes but Kevin Mirallas equalized three minutes later, both goals stemming from defensive mistakes. Luis Suarez restored Liverpool's lead on 19 minutes with a brilliant free kick from 25 yards. Mirallas might have been sent off for a high challenge on Suarez but escaped with a yellow card as Liverpool maintained their lead to half-time. Joe Allen should have put Liverpool further ahead early in the second half but shot wide from 10 yards. Simon Mignolet made a string of outstanding saves to keep Liverpool in front but when the ball broke to Lukaku, the Belgian equalized with a cool finish. Liverpool brought on Sturridge as they chased the winner but Lukaku headed Everton in front from a corner on 82 minutes, before Sturridge levelled again.
