The death toll rose to 47 with 166 injured from two explosions of an oil pipeline in the eastern Chinese port of Qingdao, authorities said Saturday, according to dpa. Authorities ordered the area evacuated and relocated about 18,000 people. Water, gas and electricity were cut off in parts of Huangdao district. The leaking underground pipeline reportedly caught fire and exploded Friday morning while it was under repair, causing extensive damage above ground and allowing oil to spill into the sea nearby. Oil covered about 1 square kilometre of Qingdao's Zhaitangdao Road and 3 square kilometres of Jiaozhou Bay, the government's Xinhua news agency quoted officials as saying.
