Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday decided against attending a Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka amid domestic pressure over Colombo's alleged rights violations against minority Tamils, dpa reported. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid confirmed that he will represent India at the meeting, from November 15 to 17. The IANS news agency, citing official sources, reported that Singh on Sunday sent a letter to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa explaining why he would not attend. The contents of the letter were not disclosed. Singh has been under pressure from Tamil parties and ministers in his cabinet not to attend the summit.
