A Congolese army spokesman said four civilians are dead after mortar shells landed in a market in eastern Congo. Lt. Col. Olivier Hamuli told The Associated Press on Monday that several had hit the town of Bungana on market day. The town had been under the control of rebels until last week when the Congolese army recaptured it as part of a rapid advance. There was no immediate comment from the M23 rebel movement though its president on Sunday had called on his fighters and the Congolese military to lay down their arms.
