AlHijjah 26, 1434, Oct 31, 2013, SPA -- Typhoon Krosa slammed into the northern Philippines on Thursday, forcing thousands to flee their homes amid heavy rains and strong winds, dpa reported. Krosa was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometres per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 150 kph as it made landfall over the northern province of Cagayan, the weather bureau said. The bureau raised storm signal warnings over 20 provinces and warned that heavy rains could cause flashfloods and landslides. Bonifacio Cuarteros of the provincial disaster risk management office in Cagayan said thousands of residents were evacuated from high-risk areas in the province. He appealed to residents to stay at home until the typhoon passes.
