AlHijjah 24, 1434, Oct 29, 2013, SPA -- At least 75 people have died of cholera across Nigeria in the worst outbreak of the disease in more than five years, the Health Ministry said Tuesday. According to dpa, the first case of cholera was recorded at an internally displaced persons camp in the central Plateau State about two weeks ago, according to Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu. Health authorities have taken measures to mitigate the spread of the disease, Chukwu said, without providing specifics. From there, the disease spread further south to the states of Lagos, Nassarawa and Oyo, as well as to the northern states of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto. "Most cases come from areas which cannot access potable drinking water and where poor sanitation is endemic," Abdulrahman Sheshe, a doctor at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, told dpa.
