AlHijjah 22, 1434, Oct 27, 2013, SPA -- Georgia holds a presidential election on Sunday, dpa reported. Some 3.5 million registered voters could decide the first peaceful handover of the largely ceremonial office of head of state in the Caucasus country. Incumbent President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been in office since 2004, is barred by the constitution from serving another term. Of the 23 registered candidates vying for his succession, Giorgi Margvelashvili of Ivanishvili's Georgian Dream party is seen as the strongest candidate.
