AlHijjah 17, 1434, Oct 22, 2013, SPA -- Attended by eleven countries: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom and the United States, Friends of Syria meeting concluded in London today. Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led his country's delegation to the meeting. A final communique unanimously welcomed the agreement of the United Nations Security Council on 27 September 2013 on the importance of achieving a political transition in Syria as soon as possible and its adoption of Geneva Declaration as a base of that. The participants also agreed that following the formation of a transitional administration in Syria, there will be no role for Bashar Assad and his junta in Syria who, instead, be held accountable for actions they have committed during the ongoing conflict in Syria. The statement condemned the Syrian regime for using siren gas, scud missiles and artillery to suppress rebels, calling in this regard on the Syrian regime to be committed to full application of the articles of Geneva 2 statement when it was issued. The statement also urged the Syrian national coalition to join Geneva 2 peace negotiations in Syria.
