AlQa'dah 9, 1434, Sep 15, 2013, SPA -- Thousands of people fled their homes Sunday after a volcano erupted on Indonesia's Sumatra island, a disaster management official said. Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra spewed ash and rocks early Sunday, prompting the authorities to raise the alert level to the second highest, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency. There were no reports of casualties or damage, but more than 2,700 residents living near the volcano had fled to safer areas, he said.
