A 5.9-magnitude earthquake killed at least four people and injured 10 others on the mountainous border of south-western China's Yunnan and Sichuan provinces on Saturday, dpa quoted the government and state media as saying. The quake shook remote villages in Yunnan's Shangri-la and Deqen counties and Sichuan's Derong county at 8:04 am (0004 GMT), destroying an estimated 600 homes and damaging 55,000 others, the China Earthquake Administration reported. It caused landslides in Yunnan that killed one person, injured three and trapped 17 others inside three tourist vehicles, the administration said. The state-run Xinhua news agency quoted officials in Yunnan as saying the death toll had risen to four by early afternoon, with some 9,200 people evacuated. Landslides caused by the quake and several aftershocks blocked road access to Xingfu village in Shangri-la county, which was the closest settlement to the epicentre, the agency said. -- SPA 12:16 LOCAL TIME 09:16 GMT تغريد
