UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned Friday of serious consequences if it is proved that chemical weapons have been used in Syria, dpa reported. Ban reacted with concern to reports that chemical weapons had possibly been used against the civilian population, Ban said during a visit to his homeland of South Korea. "Any use of chemical weapons anywhere, by anybody, under any circumstances, would violate international law, Ban said. "Such a crime against humanity should result in serious consequences for the perpetrator." He said he had instructed his disarmament representative Angela Kane to travel to Damascus immediately to investigate the reports. -- SPA 11:32 LOCAL TIME 08:32 GMT تغريد
