A German tourist was killed in Venice on Saturday after a water ferry collided with the gondola which he had just boarded with his family, sparking concerns about excessive traffic on the world famous Grand Canal, DPA reported. The dead man, a university professor from Munich, was 50. His chest was crushed in the collision, the ANSA news agency said. His three-year-old daughter suffered injuries to her head and face, while her mother and two other children, who were thrown into the water, are under medical observation. The accident took place near the Rialto bridge. The captain of the ferry, which was heading towards St Mark's Square, was said to have lost control while trying to avoid other vessels in the congested Grand Canal.
