A cargo plane crashed on landing Wednesday in the southern US state of Alabama, killing its pilot and co-pilot, authorities said. According to dpa, the Airbus A300 operated by UPS crashed in an empty field at 4:45 am (0945 GMT) 800 metres ahead of the runway, where it broke in two and burst into flames, witnesses said. Packages and debris were scattered throughout the field. Firefighters managed to put out the blaze after several hours. The cause of the crash was initially unclear. According to media reports, residents heard a loud bang and several explosions. The crash damaged several trees and power lines, cutting off electricity to around 70 households.
