fire crews said Monday the Silver Fire, a wildfire that burned 20,292 acres and destroyed 48 homes, is now 100 percent contained, according to UPI. The blaze was first sparked Wednesday near Cabazon in Riverside County, midway between Riverside and Palm Springs. At its peak, the fire forced the evacuation of 1,500 homes. There were no fatalities, but 11 firefighters and one civilian were injured while battling the flames, KABC-TV, Los Angeles reported Monday. The fire's cause remained under investigation.
