Three more people were on Saturday confirmed to have died in floods caused by torrential rain in northern Japan, media reports quoting police said Saturday. They were among five people reported missing after eight houses were washed away by floodwaters in the Akita prefecture on Friday, the Kyodo News agency reported. On the same day, a 91-year-old woman died in a mudslide and a 62-year-old man died after being swept away by a swollen river in neighbouring Iwate prefecture. Rainfall of more than 100 millimetres per hour was recorded in Akita and Iwate on Friday, according to DPA.
