At least 11 people have died and 59 have become ill in Cuba after drinking methanol, state television reported Friday citing the authorities, dpa reported. Two people remained in serious condition, the authorities said. They further called upon anyone with related symptoms, including vision problems and nausea, to head to hospital immediately. It was not clear over what period of time the deaths and illnesses occurred, although the case was made public Monday. The methanol was marketed illegally as ethanol in the district of La Lisa, a western suburb of Havana. It was originally stolen by two workers from the Havana Food and Pharmaceuticals Institute, state television said. Unlike ethanol, which is apt for human consumption, methanol is very dangerous for human health. -- SPA 22:53 LOCAL TIME 19:53 GMT تغريد
