Four people were killed on Thursday when paramilitary border police fired on a group of protesters in Jammu and Kashmir state, police sources said. Villagers of Goal in Ramban district, about 135 kilometres south of state capital Srinagar, were protesting in front of a Border Security Force (BSF) camp when the troops opened fire on them. At least 22 people were injured in the incident and the condition of 10 was said to be serious, police sources said. A group of BSF personnel allegedly entered a mosque in the area during 'Maghreb' (evening) prayers on Tuesday and assaulted some local religious leaders, sparking the protests.
