Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party was sentenced to death Wednesday for war crimes during the country's 1971 liberation war against Pakistan. Mujahid was tried by a special war crimes tribunal investigating allegations against several of the party's leaders during the nine-month war. Mujahid, 65, was convicted of genocide, murder, torture, conspiracy, incitement, complicity in atrocities and other crimes against humanity during the war, according to government estimates.
