The government of Nepal said on Thursday that 50 people had died and 19 others were missing following recent landslides and flooding triggered by monsoon rains in different parts of the country, dpa reported. More than 800 houses have been destroyed and nearly 7,000 families have been displaced. People are sheltering in schools and temporary shelters, waiting for assistance. Many families have lost their livestock. The government said it was still assessing the precise extent of the property destroyed, and had made 7.5 million rupees (78,000 dollars) available to help the victims. The monsoon rains started in Nepal in mid-June, causing landslips and swollen rivers.
