At least 51 people were killed and more than 100 injured Tuesday in eight attacks across Iraq, police officials said according to dpa. The biggest attacks were in the capital, Baghdad, where a series of car bombings targeting both Shiite- and Sunni-dominated neighbourhoods killed 30 people and injured 70. Nine people were killed and 23 injured in Baquba, 60 kilometres north-east of Baghdad, when a bomb planted near a funeral went off. Four people were killed when a parked car exploded in Samawah, 300 kilometres south of Baghdad. That blast injured 13 people. In the northern city of Mosul, eight people were killed in a series of attacks, including an alleged senior leader of the Islamic State of Iraq, a branch of the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
