Foxconn Technology Group, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, said Thursday it planned to hire 3,000 software engineers to develop products that use a new operating system from Mozilla Corp, the creator of the Firefox web browser, according to dpa. The two companies announced two weeks ago that they would build at least five devices together, using a Firefox OS on Foxconn hardware. These devices would include smartphones and tablets, and possibly televisions. Thursday's statement from Foxconn said the company needs workers who can develop web, cloud computing, and big data software and applications. The recruits will work in the company's new software development center in the southern Taiwan city of Kaohsiung. Foxconn is the top assembler of Apple Inc's iPhones and iPads. Many analysts estimate Apple represents nearly half of Foxconn's revenue. But due to Apple's recent profit weakness, Foxconn has sought to design and manufacture its own products. Earlier this month, Foxconn released its first smartphone, the A5 smartphone, which will be sold under the brand of a Taiwanese mobile operator. -- SPA 19:01 LOCAL TIME 16:01 GMT تغريد
