Floods and landslides have killed at least 150 people in north India and rescue teams were Wednesday struggling to reach more than 62,000 stranded pilgrims and tourists, DPA reported. Early monsoon rains triggered flash floods in the Ganges river and its tributaries, leading to landslides and house collapses in the hill state of Uttarakhand. Since Sunday, more than 100 people have died in Uttarakhand alone, said state disaster management chief Bhaskar Joshi. The death toll was likely to rise in the state as rescue teams were still trying to gain access to remote areas in the worst-affected districts of Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi, Joshi said.
