U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Monday appointed a Rwandan general to head the U.N. peacekeeping force in Mali. In late April, the U.N. Security Council authorized a U.N. peacekeeping force comprising of 11,200 military personnel and 1,440 international police to replace a 6,000-member African-led mission in Mali on July 1. Ban appointed Major General Jean Bosco Kazura of Rwanda as the Force Commander for the U.N. Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
