At least 20 Syrian soldiers were killed or wounded in an explosion at a checkpoint near the key Mezzeh military airport in Damascus, a pro-opposition group said. The blast late Sunday is believed to be a car bomb attack, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights activists group reported. Videos posted online by activists showed ambulances heading to the airport, a major military base for the regime of Bashar al-Assad's elite forces and the closest facility to one his presidential Palace, reported DPA.
