German tourist shot in Rio slum recovers

A Brazilian hospital spokeswoman said a German tourist has been discharged after recovering from the gunshot wounds he received last month while visiting one of Rio de Janeiro's largest slums, according to AP.
Vanessa Rodrigues of Casa de Saude Sao Jose hospital says 25-year-old Frank Daniel Benjamin checked out on Tuesday.
Benjamin was shot twice in the abdomen while visiting the Rocinha slum on May 31.
A German friend who was with him told police that they tried to flee when they encountered an armed man and Benjamin was struck by bullets.
