The European Union plans to spend 3.5 billion euros (4.6 billion dollars) in the next seven years to "make malnutrition history" in some of the world's poorest countries, Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs announced Friday, according to dpa. "I find it incomprehensible that, in an era of technological revolution, some 870 million people are still going hungry," Piebalgs said. Malnutrition causes more than 3 million child deaths annually, according to the World Health Organization, while 165 million children aged under 5 have stunted growth because of lack of food. The vast majority of affected children are concentrated in about 36 countries. -- SPA 19:08 LOCAL TIME 16:08 GMT تغريد
