The U.N.'s emergency relief fund said Tuesday that it has allocated $7.1 million to provide immediate assistance to more than a million people in the Central African Republic (CAR). The 1.1 million people in need include 595,000 children below five years of age, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). "We will provide food and medical assistance, access to potable water and sanitation, psychosocial support to victims of gender-based violence, waste management support and reproductive health care," U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator for the country, Kaarina Immonen, said in a statement.
