The governments of China and Costa Rica signed Monday a series of economic and cooperation agreements during the visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Central American country. "Relations between our two nations are still young, but they are intensive and fruitful," Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla said after meeting with Xi in San Jose. China agreed to support construction of a new Costa Rican police academy with around $16 million and granted the country a preferential loan of $400 million for a further infrastructure project. Additional deals included the Costa Rican products' exports to China and prospective cooperation in the banking sector. This is Xi's first trip to Latin America and the Caribbean as Chinese president, which has already taken him to Trinidad and Tobago. On Tuesday he is to travel to Mexico, and he is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama in California over the weekend, according to a report of DPA.
