Secretary of State John Kerry said the Obama administration is very concerned about Turkey's events and is urging authorities to exercise restraint with protesters and all sides to refrain from violence. Kerry said Monday the U.S. was following the situation closely, calling for an investigation into the violence and said respect for freedom of expression is critical to democracy. Earlier, Turkey's president defended the right of citizens to protest.
