At least five militants with suspected links to al-Qaeda were killed in an airstrike in southern Yemen, local website News Yemen reported Saturday. According to dpa, the strike, believed to have been launched by a US drone, targeted a car carrying insurgents affiliated with al-Qaeda in the southern province of Abyan, the report quoted local sources as saying. Also Saturday, gunmen killed a military official in the southern province of Hadramawt, News Yemen reported. Masked gunmen on a motorcycle fired on air force commander Colonel Yeheia al-Ameesy at a local market, the independent website said, citing a security official. No-one has taken responsibility for the attack.
