Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the release of women detained in connection with terrorist activities, the Defence Ministry said Tuesday, as the Senate gave its backing to a state of emergency in the north-east. "The measure, which is in line with presidential magnanimity to enhance peace efforts in the country, will result in freedom for suspects including all women under custody," said the statement issued by Defence Spokesman Brigadier General Chris Olukolade. Those released would go through "further rehabilitation" before they could return to their communities. Nigeria last week started a military campaign to flush out Boko Haram from the north-east. -- SPA 23:41 LOCAL TIME 20:41 GMT تغريد
