Two shallow earthquakes -- one a magnitude 4.0 and the other a magnitude 3.3 -- struck early Saturday off the California coast, UPI quoted the U.S. Geological Survey as saying. The magnitude 4.0 temblor occurred at 6:46 a.m. PDT, 17 miles off the coast of Rio Dell in northern California at a depth of 11.8 miles. The magnitude 3.3 temblor was recorded 12 miles from Ranchos Palos Verdes, south of Los Angeles, at 2:41 a.m., the Los Angeles Times said. There were no reports of injuries or damage in either quake. The geological survey said there have been two other magnitude 3 or higher quakes in the region during the past 10 days.
