The European Union is taking up the fight on cheap olive oil passed off in restaurants as a superior product, by planning to mandate tamper-proof bottles, the bloc's executive confirmed Friday, dpa reported. From next year, olive oil must be served to diners in single-use bottles that cannot be refilled, according to the European Commission plans agreed by a majority of member states this week. The proposal, which must still go through several legislative stages, would also tighten up labelling requirements by specifying that the type and origin of olive oil must be listed on the bottle. It was approved by the EU's main oil producing nations Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal, the commission said. -- SPA 18:27 LOCAL TIME 15:27 GMT تغريد
