A coal mine explosion in China's southwestern Sichuan province killed 28 miners, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. A total of 108 miners were working underground when the gas explosion occurred near the city of Luzhou on Saturday, Xinhua said, citing provincial work safety officials. Late Saturday night, rescuers had saved 81 miners, but 27 others were confirmed dead. On Sunday, one of the rescued miners died of his injuries, Xinhua reported. The accident is under investigation.
